Re:  LHS 50th Reunion Update

At a meeting of the reunion steering committee on May 5th, with great reluctance but with a sense of social responsibility, we decided to postpone the reunion until 2021. We understand that many needed to think about travel plans over the next few weeks and there is still too much uncertainty as to whether the Saturday night venue will be open by then, whether there will be restrictions on the number of people allowed into a room, whether the hotels will be open, and whether there might be other restrictions that would impede 100 plus people from getting together.

We are looking to postpone the reunion to the equivalent weekend in September 2021, using the same venues and hotels. While more than a year away, we’ve made a considerable effort to bring classmates together and we want to keep the dialogue active and alive. Towards that end, we’re taking the following steps.

  1. The website will remain active at least through 2021. We’ll set up a monthly newsletter to keep everyone abreast of our latest developments and continuing opportunities for classmates to stay connected to each other.
  2. The donations we’ve received so far we will keep until next year.  The donations reside in a Bank account and a small portion will be needed to continue the website through the end of 2021.
  3. The steering committee will continue to meet monthly. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday June 11th at 6:00 pm. Classmates are encouraged to email back to the steering committee with their input.
  4. We are exploring developing a virtual event in the fall where classmates can at least see and talk with each other, albeit not in person. It will be another opportunity to keep us us all connected in preparation for a reunion weekend in 2021 when, we hope, the conditions for a more personal and intimate event will be much more accommodating.

A lot of progress has been made to reconnect the Class of 1970. We have 100 classmates signed up on our website and contact information on another 30 or so classmates to whom we intend to encourage to join the website. We intend to maintain this momentum over the next sixteen months.

We encourage you to stay involved. Follow what we’re doing on the website. Give us your input. Continue to read new posts by fellow classmates and post your own comments. It has been heartwarming to see so many reconnect with old friends. We hope it continues and are committed to do whatever we can do to keep it all going.

We may have to wait 51 years for a 50th high school reunion but we’re committed to making it a very meaningful and affirming event. We look forward to you staying involved as we continue to make plans and keep open the channels of communication so that classmates can easily stay in contact with each other.
